Best Of British Beauty Addict 2014

Best Of British Beauty Addict 2014

As I sit on the sofa and make my way through a packet of Cadbury Chocolate Fingers (undoubtably the best biscuits ever) I have been reflecting on this year; graduating from university, landing myself a job and the growth of my little blog. 2014 although not as structured as I may have liked in terms of posting, has been a good year for British Beauty Addict. I have carried something on, which I thought I wouldn’t quite manage and have throughly enjoyed it. So today I thought I would share my top 5  blog posts (so the stats say) of 2014.

Hi I’m Emily, but you can call me an eyeshadow addict. At the start of this year, MAC released two pre made palettes, one warm and one cool. As soon as it became available I purchased the warm  neutral palette and it was a welcomed addition to my collection this year.

The base that surprised me with its application, finish, coverage and lasting power. Without a doubt my favourite base of 2014 and definitely one to add to your shopping list.

My first (and currently my only) face time post where I shared quite simply what products I wore on my face. Featuring some of my 2014 favourites (coming up soon!) this post went down well with you all.

These boots have been a staple in my autumn/winter wardrobe and a bargain find if I do say so myself. After seeing Amelia Liana’s post about her Topshop Boots, I went on the hunt for a cheaper alternative and came across a pair of boots for a quarter of the price, that are practically the same - winning.

This mask has been a skin savour this year. Rescuing my skin when it has a mad moment, this mask is without a doubt a holy grail item for me.

Essie A Stroke Of Brilliance

Essie A Stroke Of Brilliance

There has been a sparkly, glitter explosion all over my nails thanks to Essie’s 'A Stroke Of Brilliance’ nail polish. It looks super pretty in the bottle and doesn’t disappoint when applied to my nails. The polish is one of the 5 polishes from the Luxe Nail Polish Collection and is intended to be used as a top coat. However with 3-4 layers, this polish becomes opaque and looks pretty darn lovely. The polish has blue/silver (periwinkle to be precise) hexagon shaped glitter, with a clear base. The formula is great and far better in my opinion than Essie's regular polish. It is slightly thicker and lasts for days, without a chip in sight, however it takes a little longer to dry. It can be worn as a top coat, or can be layered and worn alone, or if you want to get a little fancy, you can also create a gradient effect.

With the festive season in full swing, this polish is bang on trend and exactly what I was looking for - I can’t stop looking at my nails, I absolutely love this polish! You can buy Essie polishes online at Fragrance Direct for just £2.50, however 'A Stroke Of Brilliance' is currently out of stock. But I may have just purchased 'As Gold As It Gets' a yellow gold glitter from the same line for just £2.50.

Have you tried any of the polishes from Essie’s luxe nail varnish collection?

LORAC Mega Pro Palette // Review & Swatches

LORAC Mega Pro Palette // Review & Swatches
LORAC Mega Pro Palette // Review & Swatches

If you’re a regular reader of my blog, you’ll know I have a thing for eyeshadow. Which is a little humorous as 4 years a go I didn’t even own any eyeshadow! So, after having received the LORAC Pro Palette at the beginning of this year and fell head over heels with the mix of mattes and shimmers I couldn’t wait when I heard LORAC would be releasing a palette twice the size, in their Holiday Collection. I was very lucky to get my hands on the LORAC Mega Pro Palette thanks to Jo a fellow beauty blogger from Little Pop Of Coral - thank you Jo!

The palette has the same soft-touch slim packaging, but is twice the size of the original LORAC palettes and is encased in a rich burgundy coloured cardboard. The palette includes 32 shadows, 16 matte and 16 shimmer. 28 of the shades are exclusive to the palette and there are four repeat shades from the LORAC Pro Palette, ‘Black', ‘Espresso', ‘White' and ‘Cream'. The range of colours are beautiful. The palette has everything to create an everyday look, to something more glamorous. The majority of the shadows are warm toned, but there are also a few cool toned shadows. My favourite shade in the palette is ‘Opal', an iridescent white with gold and the stand out shade would be ‘Indigo', a deep blackcurrant/purple with glitter. A couple of the shades are dupable; ‘Sepia' is very similar to MAC’s Soft Brown and ‘Copper' is very similar to MAC’s Amber Lights.

I have read that some find the shadows a little more chalky than the original LORAC Pro Palette, but I disagree and would say the formula of the Mega Pro is consistent to the original LORAC palette. The shadows have a creamy, powdery texture and the bendability is quite lovely. In terms of fallout you actually get more fallout onto the palette itself, so avoid rubbing your brush into the shade, pat your brush instead, then tap away any excess.

If you weren’t already aware this palette sold out quickly and with confusion with launch dates, limited availability and broken palettes this palette has been a disappointment for many. But for me, this palette is close to perfection. I haven’t heard any rumours that they will be restocking this palette. But LORAC would be silly not to! With the post and packaging, I paid £50.93 which if restocked, I wouldn’t hesitate to pay that price again. If you didn’t manage to get your hands on this palette but wish you had, check out the LORAC Pro Palette
