Best beauty tools

Strangely out of all four of my 2014 favourite posts, todays post is the one Im most excited to share with you all. I think that may partly be down to the fact I havent shared a few of these products with you before here on British Beauty Addict, but they are products I use and love on a regular basis and lets be honest, we can all dream about having beautiful hair, skin and makeup, but without the right tools that just won’t happen.

Crown Brushes C139&C412 (Full Review)
All eyeshadow addicts need the perfect eyeshadow brushes and for me that would be two Crown Brushes; the stiff tapered crease eyeshadow brush and the dlx pointed crease eyeshadow brush. These brushes are super soft, wash extremely well and have helped to create countless amounts of smoky, natural, eyeshadow looks over the past year. They have both trumped my recent MAC 217 purchase and I couldn’t be without them!

I was lucky enough to receive the Magnitone Pulsar at the beginning of 2014, but my skin wasn’t so lucky and all hell broke loose (basically I had a breakout). But now I couldn’t be without it. When used in a routine, I can really see the difference, it helps smooth, clear, remove dirt and impurities and I can tell when I don’t use it. Skincare and makeup products apply beautifully the morning after using the Magnitone Pulsar and it has really helped my skin become more even in texture and tone.

Another affordable brush at just £3! The MUA F6 Blusher & Contouring brush is a soft synthetic angled brush and my go to for contouring. It’s the perfect size, cleans extremely well and doesn’t malt. I have been using it lovingly along with my Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow palette.

Who really uses all their brushes for their intended use? Well this brush is without a doubt a brow changing brush. I like to use it with a matte powder to fill in my brows and it works perfectly. I have received so many comments about my brows and who knew a brush could be the reason why.

My RT brushes are still going strong and have been staple brushes in my collection. If you are looking to invest in some brushes, I can’t recommend the Real Techniques range high enough. Brilliant brushes, that are affordable, wash perfectly, last a long time and help to apply your makeup beautifully.

A more recent discovery; the Travalo. Forget travelling around with your favourite bottle of perfume, this perfume atomizer allows you to carry your favourite perfume without the worry of smashing it, it’s much smaller and hay doesn’t weigh a ton. Simple and effective.

Award winning tweezers? Yep, I thought the same, tweezers are just tweezers right? Nope, think again! Tweezerman Tweezers are super sharp and great at getting rid of those pesky, short unwanted hairs that other tweezers fail to get. I have a travel pair, which are just as good, but saved me a couple of pounds and worth every penny.

All hail the at home facial! I have had this at home facial steamer for as long as I can remember, it’s brilliant as a little treat, its incredibly relaxing, helps to bring dirt and impurities to the surface, helps increase circulation, it’s hydrating and preps the skin for subsequent treatments. I use the steam facial around 1-2 times a month for around 10 minutes and follow up with my favourite face mask - winner.

I have spent years trying to curl my hair and then consequently doing everything I can to try to make them hold and last at least a couple of hours. But gone are the days where I unleash a whole can of hairspray onto my hair, in the bid to keep my curls bouncing. Say hello to the Remington Sapphire Hair Tong, the only hair curling device that has ever managed to successfully curl my hair. Absolutely brilliant.

2014 Favourites: Body, Nails & Hair

I have never really been one to have an extensive body or hair care routine, but I do have a love for perfume, mint nails, yummy smelling shower gel and big hair. Which brings me on to todays post; part 3/4 of my 2014 favourites and I promise to keep it quick.

Soap & Glory Sugar Crush Body Range (Full Review)
Forget Soap & Glory’s original scent, the sugar crush range is enough to make you drool. It’s a fresh tangy, citrus scent and smells simply divine. I can fault this range, the shower gel is lush, the body butter is nourishing and if you haven’t tried it, get to Boots, give it a whiff and tell me you don’t love it too.

An oldie but a goodie, Burberry Brit perfume is one perfume that I have worn for years and quite simply won’t be getting bored of anytime soon. The perfume smells sexy and is a blend of amber, vanilla and the tonka bean and is a scent that completely intoxicates me, lasts all day and urhhh I just love it.

I have a thing for mint, blue and turquoise nails. So when Tanya Burr released her nail polish line early 2014, I couldn’t not add Little Duck to my collection. Little Duck is a beautiful tiffanyesque duck egg blue and the formula isn’t half bad either. Certainly my most worn polish colour of 2014.

Before I started blogging I invested my very own gel kit. I went on eBay and bought a lamp, a few polishes (bluesky), remover etc. and haven’t looked back since. It’s not to say I don’t wear regular nail polish, but being able to do my own nails and not pay a whopping £25 is defiantly one bonus. If you would like a more detailed review, let me know in the comments below.

One of my handbag essentials comes in the form of eye drops. Why you ask? Well, a few drops in each eye and you’ll look like you slept 8 hours the night before. Perfect if you’ve had a late night, your concealer just isn’t cutting it, or you need a bit of a revamp before a date night, after a hard days work.

This compact brush is an essential in my beauty regime and has been for well over a year now and I haven’t looked back since. It doesn’t tug or snap the hair and glides through wet hair like a dream. Anyone and everyone with a head of hair should own a Tangle Teezer. Fact.

My hair hero and staple hair styling product of 2014. This product helped me wave goodbye to the backcombing brush and hello to big, luxurious hair in a bottle. The invisible spray has a slight hold, is seriously volumising, leaving my hair big and bouncy. And the smell is one, which I can’t quite get enough of. I couldn’t say how many cans I have got through, but if you have limp hair that’s in need of a bit of a ‘zoosh’, I highly recommend you give this a try.

2014 skincare favourites
Like most my skin doesn’t fit into one category. If you had asked me this time last year what skin type I was, I would have said my skin was dry. But I had it all wrong and after doing a little reading and testing shall we say, I realised my skin is combination. It’s prone to spots and mild dryness (and oiliness), blackheads, unevenness and it’s dehydrated. Now, I presume that all this time I had been over moisturising with rich products, that my skin just didn’t need. So 2014, was a learning curve for me in regards to skincare and I discovered some pretty darn good products as a result.

The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil (Full Review)
If I hadn’t already made it clear in previous posts, this product is natures best kept secretTea tree oil, is antibacterial, antiseptic and soothing. Applied straight onto blemishes before bed, overnight they will have significantly reduced in size and become less inflamed. It’s a great multipurpose product and I’m currently making my way through my second bottle.

Lush Tea Tree Toner (Full Review)
On the note of tea tree oil, the Lush Tea Tree Toner is uber refreshing, tones my skin and helps to reduce redness, whilst helping to calm and reduce the size of blemishes.

Origins Charcoal Face Mask (Full Review)
Without a doubt my holy grail face mask (although a little messy), this mask is really good at drawing out those nasty under the skin pore cloggers! I like to use this mask after I have cleansed and opened my pores using my at home steam facial. What I love about this mask is that not only does it actually works, but it doesn’t leave my skin feeling tight or dry.

GLAMGLOW Thirsty Mud Treatment (Full Review)
Dehydrated skin be gone with the GLAMGLOW Thirsty Mud Treatment. This mask is unlike any other mask I have ever tried. It applies beautifully, it’s lightweight, soothing, fresh, applies translucent and it smells subtly of coconut. That’s not all! It leaves my skin looking instantly plumper, any redness  is reduced and pores blurred after application. And when applied overnight, by morning my skin is left feeling nourished, looking dewy, more hydrated and healthier. Love, love, love.

Garnier Cleansing Water (Full Review)
I don’t go a night without removing my makeup. I have never been one to roll into bed careless of the time, with a face full of makeup. Just no. And with Bioderma being a little too expensive and hard to get a hold of. Garnier have taken the reins with their very own micellar cleansing water. An essential in every girls cleansing routine and a product which I have definitely taken for granted.

Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate (Full Review)
This little glass bottle featured in last years favourites and is still standing strong on my holy grail beauty list. The light silky oil is simply divine and really helps to heal my skin after a breakout. It also softens, plumps and diffuses my skin and gives immediate results, much like the GLAMGLOW Thirsty Mud Treatment. In fact, when these products are used together they make the perfect overnight power pair.

Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream - Fragrance Free (Full Review)
Nothing compares to my Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream. This restoring balm relieves chapped and dry skin like nothing else I have ever tried. It’s a life savour and a holy grail product that I can’t recommend enough.

What’s your stand out skin care product of 2014 (any excuse to make a trip to Boots!)?

2014 makeup favourites

As 2014 comes to a close and we venture into a new year, it’s about time I share with you all my beauty favourites of 2014. As I lacked monthly favourites last year, I thought I would split my 2014 favourites into four categories, with the first instalment being makeup.

bareMinerals Original Foundation (Full Review)
The bareMinerals Original Foundation surprised me with its application, finish, coverage and lasting power. I can’t remember how I came about trying it, but boy am I glad that I did! Forget everything you think a mineral foundation would be and give this a try.

Benefit Erase Paste (Full Review)
Proof that you can once loath a product and then learn to love it. Benefit Erase Paste's creamy peach undertones has been pretty darn fabulous when it comes to banishing my dark under eye area, especially during the last few months of university.

Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow (Full Review)
One of my most treasured makeup products, the Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow has been made contouring easy peasy and as a result has allowed me to lose a few pounds without ditching the chocolate. From the beautiful rose gold casing, to the finally milled powder inside, I can’t fault this product - not even the price.

Milani Baked Blush, Luminoso
This sheer coral based blusher has become a staple in my makeup bag. I have read that it is similar to NARS Orgasm blusher, but I disagree, they are totally different, but both blushers are universally flattering on both lighter and darker complexions. It is (if the name hadn’t already suggested) literally luminising with its soft shimmer, leaving my skin glowing also leaving a lovely wash of colour on my cheeks. Personally I love this blusher and every girl should have it in their makeup collection.

LORAC Pro Palette (Full Review Pro) (Full Review Mega Pro)
If I could personally thank LORAC for creating such beautiful eyeshadow palettes I would. These palettes have been a very welcomed addition to my makeup collection in 2014, being versatile with a mix of matte and shimmer and with such a fab colour selection and wonderful blendability (breathe, Emily, breathe). These palettes are simply wonderful.

Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector (Full Review)
Firstly, let me just establish the fact that this gloss is not shimmery (shade 01 - rose shimmer) in the slightest, which throws me as the name would suggest otherwise! It's hydrating, smooth, smells delicious, it’s light on the lips, gives the perfect amount of shine and it is not tacky. A favourite amongst beauty bloggers and without a doubt a holy grail makeup product of mine.

Soap & Glory Supercat Liquid Liner Pen (Full Review)
There rarely goes a day where I don’t wear liquid liner and I struggle like most at getting even feline flicks (1st world problems). But this eyeliner has been a godsend, helping me create the most wonderful cat eyes with easy application thanks to its flexible felt tip nib. At £6.00 you can’t go wrong. Highly recommend you give this a try if like me your a fan of a feline flick.

SEVENTEEN Doll’d Up Mascara (Full Review)
We have a non mover! During 2014, I struggled to find a mascara that trumps SEVENTEEN’s Doll’d Up Mascara. Priced at £6.29 this mascara exceeded my expectations and I have recommended it to everyone and now both my sisters and a few of my friends have too become big fans of the  rubber, curvy brush that coats the lashes with a wonderful black formula that doesn’t flake or smudge. I can’t fault it.

Happy New Year!
